Chase Away!

So August is here and it's raining! Holiday time. Whether we are at home or away from home, our goal is to be pleasing to the Lord! (An International Standard Version text from 2 Corinthians seriously misapplied, I know, but even when it's raining it's better not to winge about the weather!) Seriously, holiday is derived from 'holy day'. And so there is a sense of the 'holy' and sacred in the R&R. We need rest from our labours. With all the talk of 'credit crunch' and tightening financial belts, comes the pressure to forego a holiday. But it is a false economy. There can be treasure in simplicity. So, even if you are going a short distance to your holiday destination or maybe staying at home, do take a holiday - and be blessed!  Pack up your troubles in your old bag or suitcase. Stick them in your boot, or better still boot them away. Chase away the weariness and those burdens. Easier said than done. But Jesus said: 'Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.' (The Gospel according to Matthew 11:28).
