Wet, Wet, Wet

So, it another Rank Holiday!  I meant rank!  It's pouring down with rain, and must rate as the worst bank holiday ever!  The water is overflowing and creeping up to the church basement door. Water is inconvenient. It gets everywhere. Sometimes its uncontrollable.  It got me dwelling on the song 'Rain Down'. Maybe on this wet, wet, wet bank holiday you might reflect on these words too, having switched on your computer this fine day. Did I say, fine?!  After all, it's raining outside...

RAIN DOWN
Delirious?

Looks like tonight, the sky is heavy
Feels like the winds are gonna change
Beneath my feet, the earth is ready
I know it's time for heaven's rain, it's gonna rain, again
'Cause it's living water we desire
To floods our hearts with holy fire

Rain down, all around the world we're singing
Rain down, can you hear the earth is singing?
Rain down, my heart is dry but I'm still singing
Rain down, rain it down on me

Back to the start, my heart is heavy
Feels like its time, to dream again
I hear Your voice, and yes I'm ready
To dance upon this barren land
Hope in my hands
Do not shut, do not shut, do not shut the heavens
But open up, open up, open up our hearts
Give me strength to CROSS the water
Keep my heart upon Your altar
Give me strength to cross this water
Keep my feet, don't let me falter

Rain down...

Question: Are we singing in the rain?

Up for the Cup!

So, it's Pompey's Cup! The trophy was awarded, the medals received. The pomp of Wembley had all the ingredients of religious fervour : hymns and songs (eg 'Abide With Me'), prayers (eg 'Play up Pompey' or was that 'Pray up Pompey'?!), banners and flags, marks of allegiance. Will we be up for the Cup? Christians believe that there will also be a Final Day. A day of judgment. One when those who lose their lives for Jesus' sake will be winners. When our cup will overflow. The FA Challenge Cup was won my Portsmouth and we saints congratulate them (if not Saints fans!). The challenge FA (For All) is to show similar passion to play our part for team Jesus (the church) and pray the price to serve our community. Our reward is a journey to heaven. 'I press on towards the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenwards in Christ Jesus' (Philippians 3:14). Will you?
